Genealogical research at the Detroit Public Library
The Burton Historical Collection at the Detroit Public Library main branch is a tremendous resource for local information.
The Burton Collection has a Biography Index with references to information on Detroit and Michigan people covering the end of the 19th century to about 1990. Obituaries are included in this index.
If you can't go to the Detroit Public Library, and you know the date an obituary or death notice was published, the library's General Information Department will make a copy for you off the microfilm.
This department has the microfilmed copies of many local newspapers, including the Detroit Free Press. The charge is 25 cents per page plus shipping and handling.
